Interface 1: When I go to "References > New Reference" or when I try to edit an existing reference in a library, nothing happens with EndNote 8 or later on a Mac. When I close EndNote, I get an "Unexpectedly Quit" error. How can I resolve this?

Answer: To resolve this:
  1. Go to the EndNote 8 or later menu, select Preferences.

  2. Then, choose the "EndNote Defaults" button.

  3. Click on "Display fonts" then choose the "EndNote Defaults" button.

  4. Click on the next option down, and click the default button.

  5. Do this for each option here.

  6. Click Save, and close this window.

You should now be able to open the reference editing window once again. This should also resolve the "Unexpectedly Quit" error message.

In a few cases, it's actually necessary to completely recreate the preferences for EndNote 8 or later in order to resolve this problem. If the above does not resolve the problem, then use the steps here, which will reset your preferences.
