When running an update patch for Widnows EndNote, a window opens asking what application is used to open the file, or that it can not find the msiexec.exe application. How can I fix this? |
Answer:
If there are other applications using the .msp extension or if the path to the msiexec.exe application is incorrect, this will happen.
- Right click on the downloaded .msp patch file and select Open With.
Then go to msiexec.exe application.
On Win 2000, it is usually found in C:\WINNT\System32\msiexec.exe
On Win XP and Vista, it is usually found in C:\WINDOWS\System32\msiexec.exe
Or: -
Open My Computer or My Documents on your Desktop.
Go to the Tools menu and select Folder Options. Go to the File Types tab. Highlight the MSP extension and then select the Advanced button.
Click the Edit button.
On a Win 2000 system:
Application used to perform this:
"C:\WINNT\System32\msiexec.exe" /p "%1" %*
On a Win XP system:
Application used to perform this:
"C:\WINDOWS\System32\msiexec.exe" /p "%1" %*
Select OK, close the File Types option and open the EndNote Windows update file.
