Database 14: When I sync the EndNote library on my Palm with EndNote X or later desktop application for Mac, all of the references are being duplicated. How can I avoid this?

Answer: This is a known issue with EndNote X or later on the Macintosh. If you modify a record on the Palm and sync your library, the records will be duplicated. To ensure records synchronize properly with the EndNote desktop application, you can modify the Palm Conduit Settings.

  1. Open the Palm Applications folder.
  2. Open the HotSync Manager.
  3. Click the HotSync menu and select Conduit Settings.
  4. Highlight the EndNote Conduit and select Conduit Settings.
  5. Select “Macintosh overwrites handheld.”
  6. Click “Make Default.”
  7. Click OK.
  8. Close the HotSync Manager.
With EndNote X or later, we do not advise making changes to the library on the Palm. The library on your desktop application will overwrite the library on the Palm.

If you have duplicate records on your Palm and desktop libraries, you can delete the library from the Palm and then re-sync after you have removed the duplicates from the desktop library.
