CWYW 7: I have a document that was created using an older version of EndNote, but I cannot get the new version of EndNote to recognize the citations in the Microsoft Word document. What do I need to do to work with this document using my new version of EndNote?

Answer: In most cases, you simply need to run the Format Bibliography command using the new version of EndNote, with the original library open. This will update the codes in the document to the new version, and you can then use the document in the new version as usual.

If you are using EndNote 8 or later and the document was last formatted with the EndNote 4 or earlier tools, you will need to unformat the document first, using the old EndNote 4 or earlier tools. If you no longer have these tools available, you can send us the document, and we will unformat it for you.
