CWYW 55: I would like to transfer a document from Pages 09 to Word or from Word to Pages 09. How can I do this?

Answer: The Pages 09 EndNote citing feature is fundamentally different from the CWYW tools in Word, and they are not directly compatible.

Microsoft Word to Pages 09
It is not currently possible to move references from Microsoft Word to Pages 09 in a way that maintains the link to EndNote- the references will still be there, but new references added will make a new reference list at the bottom.

Pages 09 to Microsoft Word
It's possible to use an output style in Pages 09 that simulates the unformatted citations in word, which would allow you to format the file in Pages then transfer it to word. Note this would be a one way transfer.
  1. Get a copy of the Pages To Word output style here. Unzip the downloaded style if your browser is not set to automatically unzip it.
  2. Double Click on the Pages To Word output style you downloaded to open it in EndNote X2.
  3. Go to the File menu and choose "Save As."
  4. Remove "Copy" from the "Pages To Word Copy" file name and click "Save."
  5. Go to the "Edit" menu, "Output Styles" and choose "Open Style Manager."
  6. On the list of styles find the "Pages To Word" style and check the favorites box. Close the Style Manager.
  7. Close both Pages and EndNote and reopen them to set the favorites.
  8. In Pages open the document to be sent to Word and go to the "Insert" menu and choose "Endnote Bibliography" and select "Pages to Word"
  9. Export this document to Word as you normally would.
  10. In Word, with the same Library, simply run "Format Bibliography" to format the citations in the style of your choice.
