1:
How can I download and import references from PubMed's website?
|
Answer:
To download a single reference from the PubMed website with the Endnote Web Toolbar installed in your browser, do the following:
- Go to the PubMed website in your web browser. The address is http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed.
- Execute your searches to obtain search results.
-
On the search results page, select the record you want to import by clicking on the title to view the individual record.
-
Click the "Capture" button on the Endnote Web toolbar.
-
Click the "Save To" button to save it to your EndNote Web library.
Follow the steps below to download your search results containing more than one record from the PubMed website and import them into your EndNote Web library.
- Go to the PubMed website in your web browser. The address is http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed.
- Execute your searches to obtain search results (Select "Clipboard"
from the "Send to" drop down in the PubMed navigation bar to save records from multiple
searches as you work).
- On the search results page, use "Send to:" and select the "File" option.
- Choose "Medline" from the "Format" drop down
menu in the PubMed navigation bar. Click the "Create file" button.
This should bring up a dialog box allowing you to save the text file containing your selected references. Note: If you use File>Save from your browser, instead of the Send To pull down, the file will not import.
If you have a popup blocker enabled, such as the one that comes by default from Windows XP Service Pack 2, you may need to disable the popup blocker temporarily to allow the PubMed website to send you the file.
- When the Save dialog box comes up for you to save the file to your computer, click on the "Save" button and save the file somewhere easily
accessible such as your desktop (we recommend saving with the file
extension *.txt).
- In EndNote Web, select the "Collect" menu on the top and choose Import References.
- In the Import window, select the text file in field 1 by clicking on the Browse button.
- In the dropdown for field 2, choose the Import filter called "PubMed (NLM)".
- Click the Import button and your references will be imported into the Unfiled folder.
