My cursor jumps around or to the end of the document when inserting citations or formatting the bibliography, or I'm having problems using the tools in my document and suspect the problem has to do with the field codes. How can I clean up field codes in my document? |

Answer:
In Windows:
- Make a backup of your document.
- Do the following:
Word 2007: Go to the EndNote Web tab and choose "Convert Citations and Bibliography > Convert to Unformatted Citations."
Word 2003: Go to the "Tools" Menu and choose "EndNote Web > Unformat Citations" command.
Which will remove the reference list and revert the citations.
- Do a [Ctrl]+A on the keyboard to highlight everything.
- Do a [Ctrl]+6 (above the "T" and "Y" key) to remove any additional hidden field codes.
- Do a [Ctrl]+C to copy the highlighted text.
- Open a new document and do a [Ctrl]+V to paste.
You should now be able to format this cleaned up version of the document without running into problems.
On a Mac:
- Make a backup of your document.
- Choose the "Tools > EndNote > Unformat Citations" command, which will remove the reference list and revert the citations.
- Do a [Apple]+A on the keyboard to highlight everything.
- Do a [Apple]+6 (above the "T" and "Y" key) to remove any additional hidden field codes.
- Do a [Apple]+C to copy the highlighted text.
- Open a new document and do a [Apple]+V to paste.
You should now be able to format this cleaned up version of the document without running into problems.
