Word 2010 Compatibility:
EndNote X4
EndNote X4 has been designed to be compatible with the 32 bit version of Word 2010. We do not currently have a version of EndNote compatible with the 64 bit version of Word 2010. Please register your software to be informed when a version compatible with Word 2010 64 bit is released.
Note: Microsoft recommends 32-bit Office 2010 for both 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems. Office 64-bit is optimized for advanced data analysis scenarios that most users don’t require, and existing 32-bit add-ins are not supported on Office 64-bit.
EndNote Web
Get the latest Word CWYW tools here. We do not currently have a version of EndNote Web compatible with the 64 bit version of Word 2010.
EndNote X3 and earlier
EndNote X3 and earlier are not considered compatible with Word 2010. Please purchase an upgrade to EndNote X4 to work with Word 2010. We do not claim compatibility of Endnote X3 and earlier with Word 2010, and do not recommend using EndNote in that environment.
Word 2007 Compatibility:
EndNote X1 and later are compatible with Word 2007. The tools should install on all supported operating systems.
EndNote X is compatible with Microsoft Word 2007. The EndNote X Cite While You Write toolbar should install into the Addins tab in Word 2007, and the tools should function as designed*. If the CWYW tools do not load automatically, click here for instructions on how to install the EndNote toolbar into Word 2007.
* If you run Windows Vista or 7 as your operating system, you must install the CWYW tools manually and there are known compatibility issues. Click here for more information.
We have identified the following items related to compatibility between EndNote and Word 2007. These items are based on testing performed with the public release of Word 2007. We continue to monitor reports from users and will update this message as required.

EndNote X1 and later are compatible with Word 2007.
EndNote X
EndNote X is compatible with Word 2007.
EndNote 9
We have identified minor incompatibilities with EndNote 9:
- Clicking on the Help icon in the CWYW toolbar or going to the "Addins > EndNote 9 > Help" dropdown menu gives a "Failed to Launch Help" error message. Clicking on the Help button in one of the CWYW dialog boxes will launch Help properly.
EndNote 8
We have identified minor incompatibilities with EndNote 8:
- Clicking on the Help button in one of the CWYW dialog boxes will give a "Failed to Launch Help" error message. Clicking on the Help icon in the CWYW toolbar or going to the "Addins > EndNote 8 > Help" dropdown menu works properly.
EndNote 7 and earlier
EndNote versions prior to 8.0.2 have not been fully tested for compatibility as these older versions are no longer supported. Earlier EndNote versions may be upgraded for continued compatibility.
